AGA Updates Sportsbook Operator Advertising Rules Just in Time for Responsible Gambling Education Week
As around the world gambling regulations are tightening up to suit modern trends, the USA’s American Gambling Association has also conducted a review regarding sports advertising. The review concluded with the creation of a new rulebook and code for operators called the “Responsible Marketing Code for Sports Wagering”.
The code brings in 3 main principles to govern sports betting advertising:
- Advertising must not promote “irresponsible or excessive participation in sports wagering”.
- Each advertisement must contain a responsible gambling message and information on where to seek gambling assistance.
- And lastly, advertisements may not suggest that “social, financial or personal success is guaranteed by engaging in sports wagering”.
While these new rules may come as a shock to the system for US providers, they are already established practice in jurisdictions across Europe to tackle irresponsible gambling and overall are created to keep players safe!
